This event was hosted by the Fairness Commission to ‘hear’ how Blackpool could become a ‘Fairer place’ and how older members of the community felt about the issues they felt were affecting their lives. The event included a special question and answer session with members of the Fairness Commission, including Dr Arif Rajpura, Chairman of Blackpool Fairness Commission, Neil Jack Chief Executive of Blackpool Council and representatives from the Police, North West Ambulance Services, Blackpool Teaching Hospital and Cllr Christine Wright the Older Persons Champion.
Over 40 people attended the event raising issues and questioning on a wide range of subjects from transport in Blackpool, through to issues of alcohol misuse in the Town. Housing within the Town created a healthy debate as did the need for protecting services for older people in the current financial climate.
All the attendees commented it was a positive opportunity to talk with Officers from a range of services and meet other residents and share views on Blackpool.
The Fairness Commission hopes to host more ‘Older persons Summits’ in the future.
